From Airstrikes to Accountability: :
Why the International Community has a Responsibility to Act on Myanmar
WHEN:
Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 1 p.m. Bangkok time
WHERE:
The Fort, Bangkok
—
Since its attempted coup more than four years ago, the Myanmar junta has engaged in widespread and systematic violence and persecution against the civilian population, amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity. In recent times, as the Myanmar junta has lost control of much of Myanmar’s territory to armed groups fighting for a democratic future, there has been a significant rise in the use of indiscriminate airstrikes against civilians and civilian infrastructure, causing death, displacement, and destruction across the country.
What mechanisms does the international community have to prevent further attacks against civilians, and how can justice be pursued in the case of Myanmar?
The Fort will host a live Insight Myanmar podcast interview with Patrick Phongsathorn, Senior Advocate at Fortify Rights. The podcast will explore the situation in Myanmar, options for accountability, as well as Patrick’s personal journey into human rights work. Joah McGee, founder and host of Insight Myanmar Podcast, will moderate this interview.
This in-person event is open to the public and free of charge.
