Meet the Changemakers: Tanbirul Miraj Ripon

A conversation with Bangladeshi journalist Tanbirul Miraj Ripon

WHEN:

Wednesday, July 9, 2025, 6 p.m. Bangkok

WHERE:

The Fort, Bangkok and Live on The Fort’s Facebook Page

Tanbirul Miraj Ripon is a Bangladeshi journalist and film producer who covered the 2024 July–August protests that shook Bangladesh. One year on from the “Monsoon Revolution,” The Fort will host a conversation with Tanbirul Miraj Ripon to examine the country’s political and human rights landscape following the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

According to the U.N. Fact-Finding Mission on Bangladesh, the former Hasina government implemented an “official policy” of violently suppressing anti-government protests and their supporters—resulting in over 1,400 protest-related deaths nationwide. In this discussion, Tanbirul Miraj Ripon will explore efforts at accountability for those killings, as well as the reforms introduced by the new interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, offer insights into the upcoming elections, and reflect on what it will take to break Bangladesh’s cycle of political violence.

Tanbirul Miraj Ripon has reported for Agence France-Presse, The Economist, CNN, and other international outlets, covering enforced disappearances, elections, political unrest, and the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh.

Come to The Fort on July 9, 2025 to meet and learn more about Tanbirul Miraj Ripon’s work. This event will be moderated by Fortify Rights Director John Quinley and is open to the public and free of charge. It will also be live-streamed on The Fort’s Facebook Page.

The Fort’s “Meet the Changemakers” events provide an opportunity to engage with and learn about the activities and initiatives of individuals, organizations, and coalitions dedicated to creating positive, rights-based change in Asia.
