Art, Hope, Human Rights in Myanmar: Book Launch and Photo Exhibition

On October 4, 2022, The Fort hosted a Fortify Rights event “Art, Hope, Human Rights in Myanmar: Book Launch and Photo Exhibition,” celebrating the work of Rohingya photographers Omal Khair, Dil Kayas, and Azimul Hasson.

The trio has recently published their new book “A Chance to Breathe”—a 278-page collection of rarely-seen photography and poetry documenting life in Bangladesh’s refugee camps.

The event highlighted the role of art and hope in Myanmar’s human rights crisis with a panel discussion by Myanmar and Singaporean human rights defenders and a special discussion with the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, Tom Andrews.

If you haven’t already, you can order a copy of the book, “A Chance to Breathe,” through FotoEvidence or Amazon. All proceeds from the book sales go directly to the Rohingya community.

We also encourage you to view and share this summary video of the event, which you can find online at The Fort. You can also find a full recording of the panel discussion and conversation with the U.N. Special Rapporteur as well as photos from the evening on The Fort’s Facebook page.
